Radiocadena Española
Radiocadena Española (RCE) was a Spanish public radio network that operated from 1965 to 1989, forming part of the state-owned broadcasting entity Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE). It was initially created to provide a second radio service alongside Radio Nacional de España (RNE), focusing on a mix of music, news, and entertainment. RCE was known for its popular music programming, targeting a younger audience, and for broadcasting in FM, which was innovative at the time. The network also played a significant role in regional broadcasting, offering localized content across various Spanish provinces. Over time, RCE expanded its reach and became a key player in Spain's radio landscape. However, due to restructuring within RTVE, Radiocadena Española was merged with Radio Nacional de España in 1989. Many of its frequencies and programs were absorbed into RNE, marking the end of its independent operation. Despite its closure, RCE left a lasting legacy in Spanish radio history, remembered for its vibrant and diverse programming. Its influence can still be seen in modern Spanish broadcasting, particularly in the evolution of public radio services. Today, RCE is fondly recalled by those who grew up listening to its unique blend of music and culture.
